2009 Toyota Prius III

What’s with the lime green? Oh wait,… never mind! There were some new spy pictures of the Prius in the press but those looked like a restyling instead of a completely new model. The image below predicts how the all-new Prius III could look like. But the real interest is not in the design but the technical features. Plug-in or not? If, as rumoured, the Prius get plug-in capabilities then we would like to make some requests.

So we wish for some not-skinny tyres, something normal as in other cars. Also we wish for more steering feel, less body-roll, less weird interior design. So not difficult stuff to master, basically make it more appealing for common folks that like cars. And why not make good use of the batteries weight in the new platform to lower the centre of gravity and improve weight distribution. I always thought that if one is going to put heavy batteries on a car then place it in the better possible way to improve handling. Now the plug-in part… NiMH or Li-ion… 12km full electric range or more… please make it happen!

They should not dumb down the interior design. The Prius is supposed to be ahead of the game. Its design is supposed to look concept or at least space age. People buy the Prius because it's unique enough inside and out to scream, "I'm green". Removing that cache will leave you with something plain and expected, (cough Civic).

So basically, you want a normal car with a hybrid system. AKA Camry Hybrid. The tires are there for mileage concerns, and the batteries are placed over the rear axle for a pretty darn favorable weight distribution. The interior, while different, is not bad and sets itself apart from the norm. Why make the prius more 'normal' when it doesnt need to be? There are plenty of hybrids out there doing just that.

Not a bad new look; I just wish they could find a way to minimize the spoiler across the rear that blocks one's vision. It's also mighty hard to clean the little window below it. Looks like this design still has it. As for bigger tires, wider=more rolling resistance, so it will decrease mileage. Now what I would love to see is a Prius wagon! Especially with awd. While I love my prius, hill traction is terrible in the snow!

Funny, this picture looks just like a Civic, with the back stretched a little to make it a hatchback.

i wish it wont go to being plug-in. that is one of the things that I love about the prius now, and it seems like it would be more work.
